Myopia Control - Why is my child becoming more nearsighted?
Why is my child becoming more nearsighted?
There is usually a reason for someone to become nearsighted. Many doctors simply increase the eyeglass prescription as the individual becomes more nearsighted to keep up with the progression.
The nearightendess is like "smoke" and the
reason for the progression is the "fire". The nearsightednss is a symptom of an underlying issue going on. Address the underlying issue, and you have solved the problem. The "fire" is usually due to using the visual system in a less than optimal way. Some reasons include over focusing (accommodation excess), under focusing (accommodative insufficiency), over convergence (
convergence excess), underconvergence (
convergence insuficiency).
When a doctor understands the underlying reasons for myopia (nearsightedness), he or she can then prevent it from beginging or from progressing.
Can Vision Therapy eliminate the need for glasses?
When a child or adult begins to become nearsighted then Vision Therapy for Myopia Control can be done to prevent the progression. At times it can reverse the nearsightedness. As someone continues to become more nearsighted, and eyeglasses are prescribed, the nearsightness becomes more embedded and part of the individual. It is then more difficult, and often impossible to reverse. Another option to prevent progression of nearsighteness are special molding lenses worn at night. This is effective for both children and for adults. This can be combined with Vision Therapy in order to obtain the best possible result.
