Vision Insurance

Medical Insurance vs. Vision Insurance

Medical health insurance and a vision benefit plan are actually two different things.

Medical Insurance

Medical health insurance plans (such as Blue Cross / Blue Shield or Aetna)  primarily cover for eye diseases or injuries, such as glaucoma, cataracts, eye allergies, or eye emergencies.  Diseases such as Diabetes or High Blood Pressure can have serious eye consequences and they too come under medical insurance.

Some medical insurances also have a "routine eye exam" as a benefit.
